Super Mario Odyssey Re-Released at $99.99: Same Game, Enhanced Price

Nintendo Modernizes Pricing, Not Games

Nintendo has announced that Super Mario Odyssey will return on the upcoming Switch 2 at a price of $99.99. The game itself is unchanged, but executives insist that the new price represents an “enhanced value proposition.”

“Nintendo has always been about fun,” said spokesperson Haruto Akiyama, “and raising the price without raising the content ensures that fun now carries a greater sense of accomplishment. When you beat Bowser this time, you’ll know you’ve truly invested in victory.”

The company confirmed that Super Mario Odyssey for Switch 2 features the exact same kingdoms, moons, and cutscenes as its 2017 predecessor, with no technical upgrades apart from a sticker on the box that reads Premium Edition.

Customers React to the Enhanced Price

Gamers have been vocal about the price hike, with some claiming it’s excessive. “I already bought Odyssey twice,” said longtime fan Jason McCullough. “Once digitally, and once again when I lost my Switch on a plane. Now Nintendo wants me to pay $100 for the same game again. Honestly, they had me at $100.”

Others see the change as progress. “When something costs more, it feels more important,” explained 19-year-old streamer Luigi4Prez. “This isn’t just a video game anymore. It’s a luxury item. Like a Rolex, but with Goombas.”

Nintendo, meanwhile, describes customer complaints as “valuable feedback” that will be reviewed before future re-releases are priced “even more thoughtfully.”

Corporate Justification

Asked why the price jumped $40 since the last release, Nintendo executives offered several explanations.

“One reason is inflation,” said Senior Pricing Director Naomi Watanabe. “Another reason is that people keep buying it anyway.”

CEO Shuntaro Furukawa elaborated further in an investor call: “We considered adding new levels, additional costumes, or perhaps even DLC. Ultimately, we realized players don’t want that. What they want is to experience the exact same thing they already love, only with a sharper sting to their wallet. That’s innovation.”

Analysts now predict that by 2030, Super Mario Odyssey will retail for $149.99 as part of Nintendo’s new “Enhanced Nostalgia Series.”

Conclusion

With Super Mario Odyssey back at $99.99, Nintendo has proven once again that it doesn’t need to change its games to change its revenue. As one executive reportedly put it, “Mario may never age, but his price will always grow up.”
