In a twist that is sure to leave audiences speeding down memory lane with a raised eyebrow, HBO has announced a reboot of the classic 80s TV show, “Dukes of Hazzard”. The twist? The iconic General Lee car, once draped with the Confederate flag, will now sport a Black Lives Matter flag, and the Duke boys are being replaced by BLM activists.
The reboot, tentatively titled “Dukes of Progress”, will shift the setting from Hazzard County, Georgia, to a gentrified Brooklyn neighborhood. The storyline will center around the activist duo’s efforts to fight systemic injustice while outfoxing the local precinct’s bumbling cops.
“We felt it was time to reimagine the Dukes in a way that reflects our current socio-political climate,” said an HBO spokesperson. “Our Duke characters are now community organizers and the General Lee is a hybrid Prius.”
Fans of the original series expressed mixed feelings. One tweeted: “So, instead of jumping over rivers, will the new Dukes be jumping over Starbucks queues?”
Meanwhile, the stars of the original series, Tom Wopat and John Schneider, seem bemused by the whole idea. “Well, I never thought I’d see the day where the General Lee would be electric,” chuckled Wopat.
